Boxing Day is a pseudo holiday that is celebrated on the day after Christmas.
The day was originally intended to accommodate servants and other lower-level workers, who would customarily bring gifts (boxes) home to their own families on the day after Christmas.
These days, the day after Christmas is the New Black Friday. It'a all about the sales.
Despite all the online ordering people do these days, stampeding herds of shoppers still crowd the 'brick and mortar' shops on Boxing Day, especially in London and Manchester.
In fact, some Brits see in this day an opportunity to put all the Christmas gifts they didn't like back into their original boxes and return them to the shops they came from.
This could be where marketers got the idea to have big sales on Boxing Day.
