Z-BAR FLASHING: Bent, galvanized metal flashing installed above the horizontal trim board of an exterior window, door, or brick run. It prevents water from getting into the home.

ZIGZAG RULE: A ruler that bends at equal intervals, so that it forms a zigzag when opened. Also see Folding Rule.

ZINC: A metallic element, used for making batteries, among other things.

ZONE: The section of a building that is served by a single heating or cooling loop, due to its distinct heating or cooling needs.

ZONE VALVE: A device usually placed near the heater or cooler, which controls the flow of water or steam to parts of the building.
